The kindergarten program at St Andrews offers a journey of discovery, full of exciting challenges. The enthusiastic staff are committed to respecting and valuing each individual child, encouraging them to question, investigate, discuss, experiment, and above all, have fun. Children are seen as competent, strong, capable, curious, and full of resources and through this belief are encouraged to discover amazing possibilities within themselves
Our kindergarten provides a nurturing and caring environment in which the children are supported and encouraged in their learning. The children’s idea’s thoughts, questions, efforts, energy and activities are valued, which become a fountain of strength for their life.
We aim to provide an environment in which children can work as individuals, as valued members of the group and with adults to grow, develop, explore, experience, enjoy and achieve where each learn from the other and together experience the joy of discovery. Parents are welcome and encouraged to participate in many aspects of the program.
The emergent curriculum builds on the interests of the children and emerges in the process of each activity or project, interests and is flexible.
We have permanent learning spaces which are open for interpretation on a daily basis, but offer the child the opportunity to build skills with a strong emphasis on play. The environment is designed to cover all areas of social, emotional, language, motor strength and cognitive development.
The children are encouraged and supported to express themselves through their “Hundred Languages”. These languages include drawing, painting, sculpture, drama, literature, song, dance, music and much, much more!
At St Andrews Kindergarten our aim is to provide a warm and welcoming environment where all children and their families can come and feel safe and respected. Relationships are at the heart of our kindergarten. We aim to develop positive and respectful relationships with each one of our families and create a strong partnership that allows your child to thrive during their time at kindergarten.
The kindergarten program is designed around the National and Victorian Educational Frameworks and Guidelines.
It is a play based emergent curriculum that is open and flexible and designed so that it supports each child’s individual developmental and scaffolds upon their existing knowledge, developing important social, emotional and cognitive skills to prepare children for a more formal setting at school.
