The Board of the Y Ballarat advises that Chief Executive Officer Craig Mathieson has made the decision to step down from his role, effective 26 June 2026, following his acceptance of a new professional opportunity.

Craig has served as CEO for the past four and a half years and has contributed more broadly to the organisation for more than eight years. During this time, he has led a significant period of growth and transformation for the Y Ballarat, strengthening the organisation’s strategic direction, expanding services across the community, and improving long-term sustainability.

YMCA Ballarat Board President, Peter Harrison, acknowledged Craig’s contribution and leadership.

“Craig has led the organisation with passion, integrity, and a deep commitment to young people and communities. Under his leadership, the Y Ballarat has continued to grow its impact and strengthen its position as a trusted community organisation. On behalf of the Board, we sincerely thank Craig for his contribution and wish him every success in the future.”

Craig said his decision had been made following careful consideration.

“It has been an absolute privilege to lead the Y Ballarat and to work alongside such committed staff, volunteers, and partners. Together, we have strengthened the organisation, invested in important assets and programs, and positioned the Y for continued impact into the future.

The Y carries a unique responsibility within communities, we are custodians of places, programs, and opportunities that genuinely shape lives. I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved together and deeply grateful for the relationships and experiences built during my time with the organisation.”

The Board has commenced transition planning and will shortly begin a recruitment process for the next CEO. Interim leadership arrangements will be confirmed in coming weeks to ensure continuity of operations and services.

The Y Ballarat remains focused on delivering positive outcomes for children, young people, families, and communities across the region.
