Children from Clayton Preschool participated in their local Remembrance Day service at the RSL Memorial, laying hand-made poppy wreaths, and a poppy sprig at the Cenotaph.
The kinder has been involved in local Remembrance Day activities for the last few years, walking along the Djerring Trail alongside the Clayton Skyrail to attend the service.
At Y Kinders, involvement in community events like Remembrance Day foster a sense of belonging and connection. These are valuable for kindergarten children as it introduces them to the concepts of respect, history, and community in an age-appropriate way.
The children’s presence and participation were praised by members of the RSL and community. Ancilla D’souza, Nominated Supervisor at the Preschool, said, “The children waited respectfully – standing through the Last Post, the Minute’s Silence and Rouse. Two of our children laid our wreath, while the others added a poppy sprig to pay their respects.
At the end of the service the President of the Clayton RSL, along with the Veterans, complimented our Clayton Preschool children and gave them a round of applause.”
The red poppy beds made a memorable impression on the children, and they particularly enjoyed meeting the Clayton Police Officers who taught them how to give a proper salute.
