Columbia Park Preschool’s Sea of Hands shows solidarity

June 3, 2024 Early Learning

An impactful “Sea of Hands” has been created at the front of Columbia Park Preschool as a symbol of solidarity with First Nations people and for Reconciliation.

The collaborative project with Waverley Meadows Primary School has been underway for the last few weeks and with community support was completed during Reconciliation Week.

Each hand was creatively coloured and decorated by children from the kinder and primary school, and then carefully planted in the ground. Colours in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Flags were used, creating an impressive display.

Located on Bunurong Country, Columbia Park Preschool created this activity to bring the community together, enhance learning and deepen meaningful conversations about Reconciliation.

Across Y Kinders services, we strive to embed Indigenous Perspectives in our curriculum and pedagogy, and though education and greater understanding aim to create a brighter future with respect and unity.

The Y acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and their continuing connection to land, sea and community. We pay our respects to them and their cultures; and to Elders past, present and future.
