Congratulations Kat, on your Bachelor of Early Childhood Teaching!
Kat Fulford has achieved a significant milestone by earning her Bachelor of Early Childhood Teaching, all while balancing her responsibilities as Acting Teacher at St Andrews Kindergarten in Ararat.
Starting her career in Early Childhood Education in 2016, Kat’s passion grew over the years. In 2022, with strong encouragement from her colleagues, she took the plunge and enrolled in the Bachelor of Early Childhood Teaching at Victoria University.
With a young family and the commitments of her teaching role, life was very busy and Kat admits it was challenging at times. However, she is adamant that the results are well worth it.
“I believe that early childhood is the most exciting time of a child’s life,” Kat said. “Being able to learn, try and master things for the first time. I also see this as a vital time for education as this is when a child’s brain does the most learning. To be able to be part of this process with each child I teach is a privilege like no other.”
Through her studies, Kat found her research skills have developed, and her understanding of the importance of play and allowing children to learn through their own play cycles has expanded. Her favourite units focused on playwork using loose parts, and sustainability.
The University’s hybrid model, worked well for Kat with the focus on one topic at a time. In addition, she was supported with a Y Kinders Mentor Teacher and her colleagues also played a big part.
“I adore my team and cannot thank them enough for the support and encouragement that they have given me,” she said.
“I am constantly learning from the children, little minds have so much to teach us. To anyone considering furthering their studies I highly recommend following your passions.”
Kat can’t wait to share the formal Graduation ceremony and celebrations with her family.
