Connecting with the next generation of Early Education professionals in Baw Baw

June 19, 2024 Y Kinders Careers

Showcasing a vast range of education and career options within the sector, Baw Baw Shire’s Early Childhood Careers Expo, was a must-attend for our team.

Held at the end of May, at the West Gippsland Arts Centre, the inaugural event attracted young people from secondary schools across the region and many others interested in pursuing a career in Early Education.

Gabrielle Ryan, Y Kinders’ Service Support Manager and Andrea Fleming, our Regional Operations Manager for Eastern Victoria were excited to be there.

“This event was very timely given the State Government’s Best Start, Best Life reforms with Pre-Prep rolling out from 2025. These will increase hours of free kinder for four-year-old children alongside 15 hours of free three-year old kindergarten. This will require adequate infrastructure and will impact our workforce especially in regional areas,” Gabrielle said.

Gabrielle felt that the Expo provided an ideal opportunity for anyone who has ever contemplated a career in the Early Years sector to find further details to help determine whether it’s the right path for them.

“I was fortunate to meet a lovely person who is a parent of 5 children and was considering starting her Certificate III in Early Childhood Education. But she wasn’t sure where to start.

After gathering information from myself and the Practical Outcomes team, she’s going to commence in the coming weeks! She also feels that she’d like to continue her path towards becoming a Teacher. I’d love to hear about her journey and it would be wonderful to see her working with Y Kinders in the future!

The Expo was a such a positive inspiring experience and credit to the Baw Baw Shire Council for organising such a successful event. We couldn’t believe how busy it was right from the outset!

They now have another one planned for later in the year and would like our involvement again, which is great!”
