Iso Chooks come to Eltham Preschool

March 30, 2022 Connecting communities

Colourful “Iso Chooks” have been popping up all over the Eltham area in Melbourne over the last two years.

Eltham Preschool was delighted to receive their very own Iso Chook artwork from famed local artist Joan Denison. The bright and eye-catching piece is now mounted in their foyer and has become quite a talking point! It also provides a connection between the Preschool and the wider community art project.

Community members and children had been looking out for the Iso Chooks on their local walks during the lockdowns. Now well-known local characters, these cheery chickens now number over 3,000 and adorn gardens, shop fronts and the railway station.

Children created their own “chooks” and presented these to Joan as a thank you for her gift. Joan recently attended the kindergarten along with Vicki Ward, MP, State Member for Eltham for the presentation.

Y Kinders are community focused and inclusive and provide many opportunities for children to explore and connect with local activities and their area.
