A huge congratulations to the team at Larch Street Kindergarten, located in Blackburn (City of Whitehorse)!
“I was over the moon when I saw the results. We have worked so hard towards this endeavour and are extremely proud of what we have achieved and are embracing the outcome,” said Charlene Dean, Teacher at the kindergarten.
The kindergarten received news of their Exceeding Rating just after the school holidays, which was a fantastic way to commence term two.
The Assessment recognised many of the strengths of the kindergarten and reinforced that the team’s efforts had led to this outstanding result.
The focus on Safety and Wellbeing was acknowledged by the Assessor, who highlighted the kinder’s intentional work in this space. Particularly noted, was the inclusion of children in decision-making, through initiatives such as their Children’s Council, alongside the team’s emphasis on supporting understandings of safety and wellbeing.
Charlene shared her excitement and outlined some of the other aspects in which they had excelled. “We’re proud of our strong partnerships with families, especially the Parent Advisory Group, and how the ongoing collaboration with families contributes to making the kindergarten a better place for children.
Also mentioned (by the Assessor) was our strong community outreach, including connections with the local school and the wider community. This was evident through regular visits from community members such as police officers, firefighters, librarians and dentists,” she said.
Larch Street’s success was celebrated by the kinder families, who expressed how much they appreciated the high quality program, committed teaching team, regular communications and focus on safety.
Parent Advisory Group President, Kiernan said, “The teachers are fantastic – really warm, approachable, and clearly care a lot about the kids. They take the time to get to know each child individually and seem to really understand their needs and personalities, which makes a big difference.
We also really appreciate the focus on safety and wellbeing. It always feels like the children are well looked after and supported, and there’s a nice sense of consistency and routine, which helps them feel secure and settled.
We feel really lucky to be part of the kinder community and think the ‘Exceeding’ rating is well deserved. Well done to Charlene and the team.”
