It was a day of flashing lights, sirens and big smiles at Talbot Kindergarten as excited children welcomed some very special guests for “Thank a First Responder Day” on 11 June.

Local emergency services had been invited to the kindergarten for an afternoon tea and for the kinder group to meet and thank those that provide this vital support to the community.

Teacher, Samantha Vella said the much anticipated visit followed on from learning about those in the community that help others.

“Over the week we have been learning about each of the emergency services and their roles,” she explained. “Last week we visited the CFA. Being a small town, we rely heavily on our community connections.”

Representatives from Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria, Maryborough SES and Talbot CFA were all “in attendance”. It was quite a social event – with kinder families coming along to express their gratitude.

After learning about the important work and responsibilities of each service, the children proudly presented each visitor with a special gift.

There was still time for the children to see the vehicles up close, ask questions and find out more about the specialised equipment, as well as pose for some photos with their guests.

“Activities like these, contribute to forming stronger bonds with their community and building a sense of belonging in children,” explained Samantha. “A huge thanks to all the First Responders who came along and created a memorable day and contributed to our little learners’ greater understanding and appreciation of their services.”

Talbot Kindergarten prides itself on their strong ties with the community, the unique educational experiences that their location can offer, and their inspired kindergarten program.

2026 Enrolment registrations for Talbot Kindergarten (Central Goldfields Shire) are currently open. The kinder invites interested families to contact them to arrange a tour on 4329 0482 and visit their “small kinder with a big heart”.
