Going bush at Kathleen Kelly Kinder. But safety first!

April 1, 2022 Inspired Early Education

Children at many Y Kinder services have the joy of experiencing uninterrupted play in natural environments as part of Bush Kinder programs.

Kathleen Kelly Kindergarten, located in Mildura, enjoyed their first Bush Kinder session for 2022 on a new site that was mapped out by “Mr Jarrod” and “Miss Tania”, Educators at the service.

Prior to launching this year’s program, all children participated in snake and environmental safety, which involved seeing reptiles up close. This was provided by the local ecologist, Sarah Holmes from Enviro Edu. She brought in 3 types of snake, a lizard, a Murray River turtle and a baby crocodile, which captivated the children.

Florena the Gammon Ranges carpet python and Victoria the Sand Monitor lizard were star attractions in the safety and educational session.

Respecting and caring for land and country is also part of the program, and was emphasised before heading out into the bush.

There are so many benefits to Bush Kinder and the team and families enthusiastically embrace this aspect of the kinder’s program.
